Poetry reading to launch Foundling Museums first anthology
14th April 2012
Be among the first to hear poems from the Foundling Museum’s new anthology, Tokens for the Foundlings.
The collection will include poetry about orphans, childhood and family, commemorating the Foundling Museum and Coram’s rich history.
Through its extensive art collection, the Foundling Museum tells how Coram, as we are known today, was founded in 1739 as the Foundling Hospital, the country’s first children’s charity.
The title of the anthology refers to the tokens which were pinned to baby’s clothing, by mothers who were entrusting their children to the care of the Foundling Hospital.
These tokens were attached to children’s record of admission so they could be identified if their parents ever returned to reclaim them.
Tokens for the Foundlings includes poems by Tony Curtis, Carol Ann Duffy and Seamus Heaney.
When and where? The poetry reading will take place on Saturday 14 April at the Foundling Museum
Admission This event is free to attend with Museum admission, but places are limited, so reserve your space by contacting enquiries@foundlingmuseum.org.uk or 020 7841 3600.
