Cambridge based adoption agency – Coram Adopt Anglia – is calling on people living within fifty miles of Cambridge to come forward as adoptive parents. As National Adoption Week starts on Monday 9th November, the charity is asking those in Cambridge to think about whether they could give a child a permanent, loving home.
Coram Adopt Anglia is particularly keen to hear from people who wish to find out more about adopting siblings Melanie Atkins, Adoption Manager, Coram Adopt Anglia says:
“The relationship with your sibling – your brother and sister is the longest enduring family relationship that most people have. Research shows that fostered and adopted adults, separated from their birth siblings are very keen to make contact and are saddened about the possible years together that they have lost. Coram is keen to work with prospective adopters who would like to adopt a sibling group, to enable children to be kept together.”
The charity welcomes applicants from people who are
- Married, single, divorced, gay or lesbian or living with a partner.
- Any nationality, race, religion and cultural background, or who have no religion.
- Parent(s), or those without children.
- Employed or unemployed.
- Homeowners or those in rented accommodation - as long as they have security and space to care for children as they grow up.
- Aged over 21 (we do not have an upper age limit but applicants should have the potential to care for a child throughout their childhood and offer support for some time beyond).
If you are interested in finding out more about adoption and you live within a 50 mile radius of Cambridge there are children waiting for loving homes, including young sibling groups. Please contact Coram Adopt Anglia on 01223 357397 or email clare@coram-aap.org.uk. www.coram.org.uk
Coram works with over 10,000 vulnerable children, young people and their families every year. Its adoption service has the highest success rate in the country. (3% disruption rate against a national average of 20%)
