ebony care
EbonyCare was launched in August 2004 to develop a community response to the severe shortage of adoptive placements for black and dual heritage children. These children are likely to wait three times longer for a permanent family. EbonyCare is based in the Leicester and is dedicated to reducing the number of black and dual heritage children left waiting in care.
Since 2004, the EbonyCare project has moved on from simply raising awareness and is now offering a direct service for black or dual hertiage families.
The project:
- Works with black communities to raise awareness of the need for adopters.
- Recruits people who are interested in adoption.
- Builds trusting relationships between black community members and adoption social workers.
- Provides information on adoption in a range of forms that can be accessed in a variety of settings within the community.
- The project has a body of approved EbonyCare adopters who are available to offer support to adoptive families.
