fathers and male carers

fathers and male carers

There is a growing body of evidence that suggests that the outcomes for young people, who are considered at risk, are affected by the level and quality of their father's involvement. Increased father involvement can result in better educational attainment, reduce the likelihood of offending behavior, enable a smoother transition through adolescence to adulthood, and children from separated families are less likely to suffer from mental health problems in later life.

From available research in both the USA and the UK, the effects of absent fathers can be characterised within four areas:

1. Emotional and psychological ill-health

2. Educational under-achievement

3. Behavioral problems

4. Intimacy problems associated with an inability to develop lasting relationships

The inclusion of fathers in the development and welfare of their children can have a significant impact on the educational outcomes of their children. The difference that fathers make is not in isolation from their partners but we consider that the joint input and attention of both parents has a stabilising and validating impact on the child's well being.

At Boys2MEN we provide:

- Practical and emotional support for fathers.

- Joint family support.

- Opportunities for fathers to participate in their children’s lives.
