Give a young person like Amy the chance to escape the dangers of life on the streets

Will you help give a young person a way out of homelessness?

Amy, who grew up in care, became homeless at just 17. After leaving care, Social Services should have found her a safe place to live, but failed to do so.

With nobody to turn to Amy was forced to move from place to place traveling around on night buses just to keep warm. She even had to ask to stay in a police cell for the night. The streets can be brutal. Living rough meant that Amy was exposed to all kinds of dangers no young person should face. Young people are preyed on by drug pushers, child traffickers and gangs who take advantage of their vulnerabilities.

But, a gift from you today, could help give a young person like Amy a way out of homelessness.

Help in a time of crisis

It was only when Amy called our Coram Voice helpline that things began to change. Our experienced Outreach team helped Amy to understand her options, how to make her case and deal with her housing crisis. They didn’t rest until they’d secured Amy the safe stable home she was entitled to, with a new foster family.

Thanks to the support of our Outreach team Amy is now safe, but there are many more young people like her who urgently need support. The Coram Voice Outreach team helps around 200 children and young people each year – and not one of them is homeless by choice. Tragically many young people end up homeless because they have no means of ensuring they get the housing they are entitled to.

Each young person is given one-to-one support by the Outreach team. All members of the team are experts on children’s rights and helping young people through a housing crisis. The team member will listen carefully, assess their case and then spring into action - contacting solicitors and Social Services. They won’t rest until they’ve secured a young person a safe place to live.

Names, images and some details have been changed to protect the identity of the young people we help.
