Handel Birthday Concert 2013
Join us in celebrating Handel's birthday with a concert in aid of Coram
The great composer contributed greatly to the fortunes of the Foundling Hospital in its earliest days and with his first concert for the Hospital in May 1749 began what was to become a national tradition of fundraising concerts for charity.
Music for the Royal Fireworks
This year’s concert will draw on the programme Handel performed on that first occasion and will tell the story of his involvement with the Hospital which, at that time, was seeking to raise funds to complete construction of the windowless Hospital Chapel. It will include Music for the Royal Fireworks, Countertenor Arias from 'Ottone' and 'Jeptha' and selections from 'Solomon'.
Acclaimed musicians
James Bowman, the acclaimed Handelian countertenor will be joined by Rosie Lomas (soprano), Christopher Bowers-Broadbent (organ) and Adrian Butterfield (Baroque violin) with Belsize Baroque.
Wine reception
The concert will be preceded by a wine reception with our usual prize draw and followed by a buffet.
