Sir Keir Starmer QC MP, the Shadow Secretary of State for Exiting the European Union, has lamented that the government made ‘a political choice’ not to transpose the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights, with its explicit commitment to the fundamental rights of the child, into domestic law under the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018. He also joined Coram in calling for the full incorporation of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) into UK law.

A new report released by the children’s charity Coram has uncovered a worrying lack of support for children who have been excluded from school. Unfair results: pupil and parent views on school exclusion has contributed to the government review of school exclusions published today by the former Children’s Minister Edward Timpson CBE.

Coram is one of 13 charities who are today calling on the government to do more to ease the transition into adulthood of 16 and 17 year-olds, who frequently face issues such as mental ill health, poverty and homelessness with inadequate support.
Coram receives largest single gift in its history: £4m Paul Hamlyn Foundation endowment to support children’s rights and voice
Coram has today received the largest single gift in its history. The £4m gift from the Paul Hamlyn Foundation (PHF) will fund The Hamlyn Endowment for the Rights and Voice of Children, providing a significant boost to Coram’s work advancing the rights of children and young people and ensuring that their voices are heard, and providing legal services for vulnerable children and their families.

On Wednesday 10 April, Coram Voice announced the winners of Voices 2019, its national writing competition for children in care and young care leavers, at a ceremony held at Havas Kings Cross, and hosted for the third year running by actor and former Doctor Who star Peter Capaldi.

Coram Children’s Legal Centre (CCLC) has today joined Citizens UK, Let Us Learn and others to call for the Home Office to stop making a profit on children’s immigration and citizenship applications, on the day the Independent Chief Inspector of Borders and Immigration (ICIBI) publishes his report on fees.
Coram has committed to work with partners in government, local authorities, charities and schools to deliver effective practical solutions aimed at tackling the current rise in knife crime, following its first ever sector-wide knife crime seminar yesterday.
