A national pilot exploring how restorative justice can be delivered effectively for children and young people across England and Wales is being expanded thanks to the agreement of multi-year funding. The Coram Institute for Children will evaluate the implementation of the model, to inform national restorative justice programme and policy design in the youth justice system.

Coram has been commissioned to deliver a major new national research project on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE) with the National Kinship Care Ambassador, Dr Jahnine Davis, exploring the lived experiences of children and young people growing up in kinship care across England.

Coram is marking the formal opening of the home of the Coram Institute for Children with an event taking place today (16th October) on its historic campus in Bloomsbury, central London.

As Kinship Care Week 2025 (6-12 October) gets underway, a study by Coram, commissioned by Foundations, shows the potential of mediation to support kinship families by improving communication, reducing conflict and helping to create stable, child-focused arrangements. With further development and backing, the approach could become a vital part of the support offered to kinship families across the country.

Coram has published its very first Policy Bulletin, setting out some of the key areas where our work is relevant to policy makers, and distributed to MPs, peers, journalists and civil society organisations with an interest in children and young people.

In September 2024, AllChild launched its Impact Programme in Wigan, marking its first expansion outside London. Initially engaging 250 children and young people across seven schools in Leigh, they will soon support 230 more children across a further six schools in Atherton and Tyldesley from September 2025.

Coram has been appointed as AllChild's learning partner with a focus on understanding the lessons learnt from the launch of their two-year Impact Programme in Wigan Borough in September 2024, their first expansion outside of London.

Today, Foundations (the What Works Centre for Children and Families), Coram and partners publish a new report revealing gaps in the national picture of Family Group Conferences (FGCs), and launch further research including a national data collection, to fill these gaps.
