Coram Adoption (North London) is the result of the merger between the adoption team from the charity Norwood with Coram’s adoption service, and has been created to help find more adoptive families for the growing number of children in care.
The team are now holding regular information meetings at their new base in Finchley. The service’s manager, Gillian Kirsch, said: “This is a chance for people to hear about the kinds of children who are awaiting adoption and meet our friendly, professional team.
“Coram offers lifelong post adoption support to families and has over 40 years experience in the field. We pride ourselves on offering a service that puts the needs of children first.
“Don’t be put off by myths about adoption; whether you’re single or in a relationship, straight or gay, what matters most is your ability to offer love and support to a vulnerable child.”
Coram runs one of the UK’s largest Voluntary Adoption Agencies, preparing parents for adoption across London, the East Midlands and East Anglia.
There are a series of short films about adopting with Coram on our YouTube channel in which adopters talk first hand about the support and quality of service they’ve received from Coram.
During the last two years, the Government has introduced reforms with the intention of increasing the number of adoptive families recruited each year and speeding up the time taken for children to be placed with new families. In response to this, Voluntary Adoption Agencies such as Norwood have been exploring new ways of working collaboratively to combine resources and expertise.
Coram’s Chief Executive, Carol Homden, said: “Coram has a key priority to encourage and support people through the adoption process and help find homes for some of the 6,000 children in care who are awaiting their forever family.
Prospective adopters will also be able to access our pioneering Concurrent Planning service which involves looking after babies under two and ensures greater stability for them in early life.”
Coram Adoption North London works with culturally sensitivity to all the communities it serves and welcomes prospective adopters from all cultural backgrounds, including Jewish families.
