Voices in Action Youth Homelessness Grant Programme

Grants for grassroots organisations supporting young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness in London.

The Voices in Action Housing Rights Ambassadors have been working together since 2024, campaigning for change and using their lived experiences to make things better for other young people. We do this in many different ways, training professionals and other young people on housing rights, creating award winning films, and offering our expert perspective on housing to influence policy. In 2024 we delivered our first grant programme. Allocating £100,000 to four charities working with young people impacted by homelessness over a year. This year we would like to focus on working with two charities, over two years. We hope this will lead to longer term outcomes, more sustainable work and a really good working relationship between our Housing Rights Ambassadors and your organisation.

Summary

The Voices in Action Housing Rights Ambassadors are launching a grant programme funding two grass root organisations in London for the next two years.

The funding available is £20,000 per organisation per year. A total of £40,000 will be given to each organisation.

We are would like to fund a project or piece of work that supports young people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.
We are particularly interested in funding organisations with expertise in supporting young people who disproportionally impacted by homelessness such as care experienced or young migrants.
We are also very interested in organisations who promote participatory working and have an active involvement of the young people supported.

The Voices in Action Young Ambassadors will be leading this process and making the decisions on who is successful in receiving the grant.

The Voices in Action Young Ambassadors will be involved throughout the life of the grant and we hope to develop opportunities for visits, learning and collaboration. They will also be a core part of the grants monitoring and evaluation.

Eligibility and Criteria

Organisations should be registered charities in England and Wales (or a Charitable Incorporated Organisation CIO) with an annual turn over of no less than £100,000 per year and no more than £1 million per year.
Organisations must support young people impacted by homelessness or at risk of homelessness
Projects must be based in London
Organisations must be able to provide two years of accounts, and show an up-to-date safeguarding policy for both adults and children.

This is a Youth Led Participatory Grant Programme.

The Voices in Action Ambassadors will lead the decision-making process.

Our Ambassadors have a huge diversity of educational backgrounds, learning needs and learning styles. Some of our young people have English as a second (or third) language.

In order to apply for this grant please fill out the form below to register, and then email your four page slide deck to via@coram.org.uk by Friday 9^th October.

Please limit jargon and keep the language clear. Please aim for no more than 150 words per slide

Slide One: Introductions. Tell us what your organisation does right now to provide effective support to young people. You could give examples of previous projects or successes or expertise. Why are you the best people to do this project? Why should we support you?
Slide Two: The Big Idea: Why do you want the grant? What is the grant for? What is your concept? Is the an existing project or is it new?
Slide Three: The Impact: Who will this grant help? What would you like to achieve in the two years? What change will you make? How will you know you are making a difference?
Slide Four: The How? How will you make this work? How do you think you will spend the grant over the two years? What will happen at the end of the two years? Will this project continue or will it finish?

Scoring:

Each slide will be given a mark out of 10. We will also award an extra 10 points for presentation accessibility – so please consider your word count / jargon.
If you chose to submit a video or audio file in your presentation – this should be no more than 1 minute long in total.

Our organisational turnover lies between £100,000 and £1 million a year.

We have two years of accounts, we keep management accounts, and have up to date safeguarding policies for both adults and young people.

If successful with our grant application, we will engage with Coram’s Young Ambassadors, involve them in the monitoring and evaluation of this grant and work collaboratively. We will provide more details at full application stage.

We are happy for Coram to share any information on this document with the original funder of this programme, Oak Foundation. This will help them understand the needs of grassroots organisations working in the field.
