Simon Callow stars in our annual Handel Birthday Concert
Celebrate Handel’s patronage and inspiration with this realisation in words and music of Charles Dickens’ Received, A Blank Child, a contemporary account of life in the Foundling Hospital in 1853
Simon Callow will play Dickens – with his words embellished by the glorious music of Handel and his contemporaries.
This year's event is a realisation in words and music of an article written about the Hospital by Dickens, Received, A Blank Child, which describes a child's life in the Hospital in 1853. The emotive title was taken from the wording of the official form for children entering the Hospital's care.
This semi-staged production will be performed by Simon Callow, soprano Anna Dennis, keyboard soloist Julian Perkins with Sounds Baroque, and directed by Pia Furtado.
Music will include one of Handel's grand overtures on the organ and his Deutsche Arien in which God is manifest in the beauty of creation.
The evening will also include our Grand Prize Draw with wonderful prizes to be won, wine reception and buffet.
Simon Callow appears subject to availability.
