Tech in Children’s Social Care working group
A programme of discussions, evidence gathering and stakeholder engagement
We host a working group to explore how AI, data and digital technology can be used responsibly to improve outcomes for children and families in children’s social care. Bringing together leaders from local authorities, practice experts, researchers, digital specialists, and organisations representing the voices of children and young people, the group provides a space for collaborative thinking on some of the sector’s most pressing challenges. Drawing on expertise from across practice, policy, research and lived experience, the working group aims to produce practical outputs that can inform local and national conversations about the future of children’s social care in an increasingly digital world.

Digital Practice newsletter
Explore the opportunities, challenges and practical realities of AI, data and digital technology in children’s social care.
Designed for practitioners, leaders, policymakers and researchers, the newsletter brings together emerging research, sector developments, case studies, events and expert insight to help the sector navigate an increasingly digital future. Each edition asks a simple question: what’s working elsewhere that could work here? Drawing on learning from across children’s social care and beyond, the newsletter examines how new technologies are being used in practice, highlights barriers to adoption, and explores the ethical considerations that should guide innovation.

Storyteller
Digital life story platform for children in care
Storyteller is an innovative digital life story platform designed to help children in care build, preserve and own their personal stories. Developed through a partnership between Coram and After Cloud, the platform enables children, carers, social workers, family members and other important people in a child’s life to capture and share memories through photos, videos, audio recordings and written messages, creating a living record that stays with them throughout childhood and into adulthood.
Centre of Excellence for Data and Digital in Children’s Social Care
Coram is proud to be a member of the Data2Insight consortium that is funded and supported by the Department for Education in scoping and designing a “Centre of Excellence”, a national support offer for data and digital in children’s social care. The Centre of Excellence will be a major investment by DfE to help boost the capability of LAs to use data and digital in children’s services, and the D2I consortium will work together to design it with the sector. As a member of the consortium, we will support work to determine the scope of the Centre, particularly with respect to how it can help LAs with adopting AI and other emerging technologies.
The consortium for this project represents five organisations, all with longstanding relationships to the sector. The members of the consortium are: Data to Insight, Coram, the LGA, Social Finance, and ICT Revolutions.

Data Standards for Social Care Programme
Coram is working in partnership with Social Finance and the Open Data Institute to develop data and interoperability standards for social care. This work is jointly funded by the Department for Education (DfE) and the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), seeking to benefit children, young people and adults supported by social care.
The creation of these standards aims to make it easier for data created in one system to be accessed and meaningfully used in another.

We work with peers and partners to support collective exploration of approaches to improving sufficiency, sustainability and outcomes for children and young people in and leaving care.
Previous events include:
- June 2026: Creating Stability: regional sufficiency in a reformed system
- March 2026: Right Place, Right Support: Rethinking placement sufficiency for children’s social care [invite-only roundtable]
