Coram is one of the adoption agencies supporting a campaign launching today (3 March) encouraging more LGBTQ+ people to ‘change lives in 25’ through adoption or fostering.
Led by charity New Family Social, LGBTQ+ Adoption and Fostering Week 2025 brings together adoption and fostering agencies from across the country with LGBTQ+ potential applicants.
The campaign calls on members of the LGBTQ+ community to think about how they could change lives in 2025, with an ongoing urgent need for more adopters and foster carers to come forward. Last year alone 1 in 5 adoptions in the country were to same-gender couples. However, the actual number of adoptions to these couples fell by 40 from 2023.
Coram, as host of Regional Adoption Agency Coram Ambitious for Adoption, has a partnership with local authorities across London and in Slough. Coram, one of the early pioneers of LGBTQ+ adoption, welcomes enquiries from anyone in the LGBTQ+ community who is thinking about adoption, and encourages them to take their first step by making an enquiry or coming along to one of our free adoption information sessions. The next event takes place online on 25 March, and there is also an in-person information evening for Black African and Caribbean adopters at Coram Campus, London on 11 March 2025. We encourage you to come forward if you are from a black or dual heritage African or Caribbean background and are interested in adopting.
James and Liam*, who adopted a little girl Charlotte* through Coram, said: “A large part of us choosing Coram was the clear support for LGBTQ+ adopters, their professionalism and the support network they have in place for people. Charlotte is an amazing little girl. She is so positive and approaches everything with joy and happiness. Everyone who spends time with Charlotte falls in love with her. Our lives have changed in every way, all for the better!”
