Beyond the Headlines: Childhood and Wellbeing in a Changing World

Young people around the world are said to be facing a dramatic decline in their physical, mental, and emotional wellbeing. Building on the momentum of Mental Health Awareness Week 2024, this online Coram Society event will delve into mental health research insights and tackle the crucial question: what should we do?

This event will introduce participants to findings from two research projects focused on better understanding both professional responses to, and young people’s experiences of, extra-familial risk and harm.

This webinar is designed for local authorities that may be new to the Outbound service and want to find out what we offer and hear some initial guidance on how to approach overseas placements. It is for local authority staff - both social workers and lawyers - who are involved in the placement of children currently living in the UK with kinship carers overseas on all legal orders. We will do a short presentation and then take questions.

Join us in-person at the Coram campus to hear about how we can transform children's services through innovation. Bringing together a wide range of like-minded professionals from across the country, the Forum will demonstrate innovations in practice and inspire discussion on how we can utilise our collective capacity and optimise our use of innovative technology to facilitate better outcomes for children, young people, families and improve practice for those working in the sector.

The first-ever National Kinship Care Strategy has been published. This session aims to explore the implications of the strategy on social work with kinship families and the impact it has on local authority planning, practice and workforce.

Join us and our speakers (Polly Toynbee and Professor Harriet Ward) to examine how our understanding of poverty and need has evolved, or not, since the time of Thomas Coram, and the impact this has on the contemporary world.
