About the event

Join Coram Voice for an engaging and practical webinar exploring how we can improve access to physical activity for care-experienced children and young people.

This session will showcase findings from a recent Local Government Association report, Guidance on improving opportunities for physical activity for care-experienced children and young people. The guide has been commissioned by the Local Government Association (LGA) and was written by Coram Impact and Evaluation, in partnership with Coram Voice and Stormbreak. The report draws on case studies and findings from the Bright Spots Programme.

The report findings will be presented by Dr Katherine Stockland, from the Coram Impact & Evaluation team. The guide provides information, advice and examples of good practice on how councils and their partners can best support care-experienced children and young people to be physically active.

We’ll also hear from Kate Bone and Emma Dowinton from Stormbreak, a charity focused on supporting children’s mental health through movement. They’ll share insights into their work with foster carers to embed simple, sustainable physical activities into daily routines.

Adding a personal perspective, we’ll hear from one of Coram Voice’s care-experienced consultants who will share how access to physical activity benefited his own well-being, and ultimately helped him achieve national success in swimming.

Finally, colleagues from the Bright Spots Programme will highlight how it helps local authorities to measure the well-being of their children in care and care leavers. They will offer ideas on how local authorities can address the barriers to accessing physical activity that young people have identified through the Bright Spots surveys.

Whether you’re a social worker, member of a Corporate Parenting Board, policy maker, health practitioner or foster carer, this webinar will offer practical strategies and real-world examples to help improve physical activity access for the young people you support.
